Parent Institure for Quality Education (PIQE)

Montclair High School parents have the opportunity each year to participate in the Parent Institure for Quality Education (PIQE) program. The purpose of the PIQE program is to encourage low-income, ethnically diverse parents of elemebtary, middle and high school children to take a participaory role in assisting their children. This training is designed to develop skills and techniques that will enable parents to address the educational needs of their school-aged children.

An initial study indicated that

~fewer children of PIQE graduates than of non-graduates have been involved in disiplinary action and have been absent from school without permission.

~more PIQE graudates than non-graduates have been in recent contact with their children's teachers, spent a fixed amount of time on homework each night, understnad their responsibilities in the education of their children, and feel their children are motivated to go to college.

~Parent Institure for Quality Education is creating educational greater awareness among its parent graduates.
